Before applying for the exam candidates must know the syllabus of CLAT 2017. There is no fixed CLAT syllabus, candidates can Prepare for CLAT exam from the topics provided in this article. The CLAT syllabus 2017 will come from these five subjects which are given below:
English Vocabulary: | Synonyms, Antonyms and Analogies. |
English Proficiency: | Idioms and Phrases, One Word Substitution, Sentence Improvement, Rearrangement of Words in Sentence, Rearrangement of Sentence in Paragraph, Fill in the blanks and Cloze Tests. |
English Usage Errors: | Common Errors, Spotting Errors, Inappropriate Usage of Words and Spelling Mistakes (English Usage). |
Arithmetic (Number Theory): | Number Systems, Surds and Indices, Square Roots, Fractions and Decimals, HCF and LCM, Simplification, Approximations, Ratio and Proportion, Average and Logarithms. |
Commercial Maths: | Interest, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Partnership and Discounts. |
Mensuration: | Areas and Volumes. |
Events of National and International importance also covering current events in area of Economics, Science, Technology, Sports, Persons and Places, Books and Authors.
International Law, Criminal Law, Indian Constitution, Legal Terms, Legal Maxims, Family Law, Contracts and Torts.
Reasoning Tests: | Direction and Distance Test, Analogy Test, Classification (Odd Man Out) Test, Coding Decoding Test, Number Test, Series Test, Relationships Test, Alphabet Test, Ranking Tests and Time Sequence Test. |
Logic Tests: | Statements Assumptions, Statements Arguments, Statements Conclusions and Statements Action. |
The exam pattern for B.A.LL.B.(Hons.), LL.M and Ph.D. Programmes will be different. The detailed exam pattern for these courses is mentioned below:
The question paper will contain total 150 multiple choice questions.
There will be four optional answers will be given for each question.
The exam duration will be 1 hour 30 minutes.

The question paper will carry maximum 150 marks.
There will be 100 objective type questions and 1 essay question.
The exam duration will be around 90 minutes.
The objective type section will contain 100 marks and essay section will contain 50 marks.
The entrance exam will comprise in two papers i.e. paper 1 (Research Methodology) and paper 2 (Research Proposal Specific Paper).
The paper 1 will comprise in 100 multiple choice questions and the time duration will be 1 hour 30 minutes.
The paper 2 candidates have to submit a research proposal not more than 15 pages on the topic which candidates want to pursue a Ph.D.
